Claude.ai / ChatGPT connector

The connector lets Claude or ChatGPT act as the Design agent on the plan you already pay for. You add Moonomat as a custom connector once, keep a Moonomat tab open, and ask for designs in the chat the way you would in the Design agent panel. The chat's model writes, runs and renders Moon files in your open tab; your bundle data stays in your browser.

The connector is experimental. The Design agent panel's backend picker lists it as Claude.ai / ChatGPT.

Setup

  1. Sign in to Moonomat and pick Claude.ai / ChatGPT in the Design agent panel's backend picker. The panel shows the connector URL, https://moonomat.com/api/mcp, with a copy button.
  2. Add the connector in your chat app:
    • Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan; the Free plan allows one custom connector in total, so remove another first if you have one.
    • ChatGPT: open chatgpt.com/plugins and Add custom MCP server, paste the URL. Write tools need a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace; Pro connects read-only, and the consumer plans are not documented to support custom servers.
  3. The chat app opens a Moonomat window asking whether it may use your Moonomat tools. If this browser is not signed in to Moonomat, you sign in with Google first. Press Allow.
  4. In claude.ai, open the connector's settings and set its tool permissions to Always allow. The default asks you before every single call, including reads of the documentation, and approving once does not cover the next call with different arguments.
  5. Back in Moonomat, press Connect this tab. The panel reads "Connected" and names the bundle the agent will work in.
  6. In the chat, ask for a design: "In Moonomat, design a 40 mm washer with a 20 mm hole." The first time, the model reads a short primer about Moon on its own.

Screenshots of the current dialogs will follow once the clients' menus settle; both change often.

While you chat

  • The Moonomat tab shows a live feed of the tool calls as they happen: files written, runs, renders. Use it to follow the work; the chat shows renders only in the collapsed tool blocks.
  • The agent works in the bundle open in the connected tab. Switch bundles there if you want it to work elsewhere; it cannot create, delete or switch bundles itself.
  • Every change goes through the normal journal, so Undo works as usual. Deleting or moving a file the agent did not create itself asks you in the Moonomat tab first.
  • If you close the tab, the model tells you to reopen Moonomat and press Connect this tab. If you open the bundle in another Moonomat tab, the connected tab loses write access until you switch back.
  • Only one tab per account is connected. Pressing Connect this tab in another tab or browser takes the connection over; automatic reconnects never do.

Limits and privacy

  • Usage. Renders, spec lookups and file reads count against your chat plan's usage, not against Moonomat's. A render is roughly 1,500 image tokens; a Claude Free account may reach its limit after one or two designs.
  • Free Moonomat accounts may make 60 file changes per 24 hours through the connector (writes, edits, Python runs, comparisons, deletions and moves). Reading, running and rendering are not counted. Full Moon is unlimited.
  • Privacy. The relay forwards tool calls and results and stores nothing. Tool results, including renders and file contents, go to Anthropic or OpenAI, as they do with OpenRouter today. Keep the connector in chats where you control the other tools: content pasted into a chat can steer the model, and a second connector could receive what it reads.
  • Revoking access. Account & Privacy lists the connected apps with a Revoke button. Revoking stops the app's next call; add the connector again to continue.

Troubleshooting

  • "No Moonomat tab is connected": open moonomat.com/edit, choose the Claude.ai / ChatGPT backend and press Connect this tab.
  • "Another tab is connected": press Reconnect this tab where you want the agent to work.
  • "The bundle is open in another Moonomat tab": switch back to the connected tab or close the other one.
  • A long run or render returns a job id: wait a moment and the model fetches the result with the job tool; results are kept for ten minutes.
  • The chat app says the connector could not be verified or refuses the URL: the server must be reachable from the chat app's network; the URL is exactly https://moonomat.com/api/mcp.
